Chapter Twelve

Nikko

I almost collapsed when I entered the gym to see Sin dancing. My God, she’s a sight. I completely forgot I soundproofed the basement. When I woke up and the house was quiet, I thought Sin was still sleeping.

The dance spot was Dr. Summer’s idea. She thought it would be good for Sin’s mental health. I don’t know what possessed me to listen, but I spent most of last night installing everything she’d need to have something that was hers.

Actually, I’m pretty sure I know what possessed me. Sin did. She’s gotten to me unlike anyone ever has.

She’s under my skin and she’s slowly sneaking into places I don’t want her. Watching her dancing, I can almost forget who she is and why she’s here. I can picture us sharing the space daily.

She can dance while I use the weights, and then we can spar. My offer was genuine, though I knew she’d deny me. I knew she’d want to be out by the water, so I put a book out there for her. I don’t even know if she reads. If she does, I have an entire library she can have full access to.

I know less than nothing about my wife, other than her name, and that she dances beautifully. I know she can kick the ass of men three times her size, and she is supposed to be the enemy. Yet she’s becoming less the enemy and more of something else. But I don’t know her.

I want to. After seeing her bleeding again and knowing I caused it, I concluded that I didn't like it. I want to torment her and torture her, yes. But the only way I want to bring her pain is when I'm also giving her pleasure.

I spend the next couple of hours boxing and then decide to have some lunch. As I stand in the kitchen, I can see Sin sitting out by the cliff. I get the leftover chicken from dinner and cut it into bite-sized pieces.

I chop up fresh vegetables for a salad and make a lemon and herb vinaigrette to dress it. Once it's all mixed, I split it into two bowls, grab two bottles of water, and step out the back door. Sin is so engrossed in the book I left for her that she doesn’t hear me approach. I stand for a minute and watch as her eyes move back and forth over the pages. I sit beside her and she jerks upright.

“Fuck. You scared the hell out of me.” She calls out.

“Sorry. I was just bringing you lunch.” I hand her a bowl of salad and a bottle of water.

“Thanks.” She mumbles. She takes the first bite and moans. “My God, this is so good.” She says around a full mouth.

“I’m glad you like it.”

“I do. You should be a chef.”

“In another life,” I say.

“Is that what you’d do if you weren’t the heir to the Bratva throne?” She asks me.

“You really want to know?” I ask back.
